Perturbator's James Kent and Cult of Luna's Johannes Persson Talk Final Light at Roadburn
Journey to the Depths of Darkness with Lustful Sacraments
Interview with James Kent of Perturbator on His New Album
At the crossroads of summer 2017, James Kent of Perturbator faced a profound choice. Having played a pivotal role in the resurgence of the synthwave scene, he pondered the next chapter of his musical journey. How could he transcend the boundaries he had helped establish and push his craft further?
The answer unveiled itself in the form of "Lustful Sacraments," Perturbator's fifth full-length album. In a recent interview with us, Kent delved into the inspirations and creative process behind his latest sonic creation.
Inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft and the unsettling depths of cosmic horror, "Lustful Sacraments" embraces a darker, more atmospheric direction. Kent weaves intricate soundscapes that evoke an eerie and unsettling ambiance, drawing listeners into a realm of Lovecraftian nightmares.
"I wanted to create an album that was more than just a collection of songs," Kent explained. "I wanted to tell a story, to create an immersive experience that would transport listeners to another dimension. The lyrics explore themes of cosmic terror, isolation, and the descent into madness."
A Collaborative Masterpiece with Cult of Luna
On the Roadburn stage, Perturbator and Cult of Luna's Johannes Persson joined forces to present "Final Light," a haunting and atmospheric collaboration. This exclusive performance showcased the harmonious blend of their distinct musical styles, creating a captivating and unforgettable experience for attendees.
Persson described the collaboration as a "natural extension" of their mutual admiration for each other's work. "We both share a love for dark and immersive music," he said. "It was an honor to work with James on 'Final Light' and explore the depths of our creative potential together."
